Double Edge Razor Blades for Your Safety Razor

Which Razor Blade Fits Which Safety Razor?
A classic safety razor takes a double edge blade: a thin blade with two cutting edges, one on each side. This format, DE for short, has been the worldwide standard for more than 100 years. Which MERKUR blade you need therefore depends only on your razor:
- Safety razors: For every MERKUR safety razor we recommend the MERKUR Super Platinum, whether two-piece or three-piece, closed comb, open comb or adjustable. The Super Platinum fits all standard double edge razors, including those made by other brands.
- 907C detailing razor: The 907C takes the 908 trapezoid blade. A double edge blade does not fit this razor.

Razor blades are a very personal grooming product, because hair and skin differ from person to person. That is why MERKUR focuses on one proven blade of the highest quality grade instead of a confusing range:
- MERKUR Super Platinum, pack of 10: Double edge blade made of stainless Sandvik steel with platinum and Teflon coated edges, quality grade “Superior”. Each blade is individually wrapped in paraffin paper and can be safely snapped in half if needed, for example for a straight razor.
- MERKUR Super Platinum, pack of 100 (10 × 10): The same blade as a stock-up pack with ten boxes of ten. Cheaper per blade than single packs of ten, and handy if you shave regularly.
- 908 trapezoid blade, 10 pieces: For the 907C detailing razor. One narrow and one slightly wider cutting edge let you shape fine contours and eyebrows. Made in Solingen from C95 carbon steel, hardened to 66 HRC and individually wrapped in paraffin paper.

Gentle or Thorough: Blade and Razor Work Together
How gentle or thorough a shave feels depends not only on the blade but just as much on the razor. The Super Platinum fits every one of the following models, the difference lies in the razor head:
- Closed comb, for example the 34C or 23C: the all-rounder for the daily shave and for beginners. It holds the hair down and shaves gently.
- Open comb: for longer beards and body hair, because the teeth let long hair through to the blade. Better suited to experienced shavers.
- Adjustable blade gap, for example the FUTUR 700 or 34 ADJ: one turn sets the distance between blade and comb, from coarse for long hair to gentle for the daily shave.
When Should You Change Your Razor Blade?
Depending on skin sensitivity and beard strength, we recommend changing the blade every 5 to 10 shaves. At the latest, it is worn out once it starts to pull or tug, or leaves tiny cuts after shaving. Like the edge of a straight razor, the edge of a double edge blade is fine and elastic: it lasts longer if you let it rest for at least 24 hours after shaving so the edge can straighten up again. If you only shave every few days, a blade will last you correspondingly longer.

Tips for Longer Blade Life
- Do not wipe: The fine edge cannot take being wiped with a towel or tissue. The edge breaks and the blade quickly goes dull.
- Rinse regularly: Rinse soap residue and hair off under water while shaving. A clean blade glides better and irritates the skin less.
- Keep it dry: Moisture is the blade’s worst enemy. Let the razor dry well after shaving and, if possible, store blades and razor outside the humid bathroom, for example in a closed cabinet or drawer.
- Shave with shaving soap: A good shaving soap or cream reduces friction between skin and blade. It is even gentler if you apply a little oil to the wet skin before the lather.
Disposing of Razor Blades Safely
Even a dull blade is still sharp enough to cut yourself. Wrap the used blade in paper, snap it once and dispose of it with household waste, out of reach of children. MERKUR blades are packed in paper and cardboard only, without plastic.
